On November 14, 2009, Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed a proclamation declaring the day as ‘Laura Horton Day’. This was a unique 110th birthday present for Ms. Horton, who had already celebrated her super-centennial a day early, among friends at the Talihina Choctaw Community Center. Horton was born in Seminole in 1899. Since then she has become a parent, a grandparent, and a great grandparent. She is one of the few Super Centenarians (those who live to be 110) in the country, and has participated in a Boston University on Centenarians. Laura has remained active, with the help of her Home Health Aide, Bessie Dillard. Dillard and the rest of the Mays Home Health staff in Talihina go above and beyond to make sure Ms. Horton receives excellent home health care. Laura is a Talihina resident, and lives with her only child, Wilma Horton. She has four grandchildren Cynthia Helton of Oklahoma City, Kimberlee Vanderburg of Broken Bow, Brad Webster and Brent Webster of Reno, Nev. Her great-grandchildren are Madison Nolen, 13, of Broken Bow and Chelsey Meyerholtz, 23, of Huntington, Ind. Her family wishes to extend their thanks to Mays Home Health Care for providing the in-home assistance Ms. Horton receives.
